Come embrace life, death, family, community, and the art of ritual by participating in this year's Mendocino Coast Day of the Dead Celebration. We are a volunteer group working to organize, coordinate and advertise Day of the Dead events on the coast. We all have real jobs, but believe so strongly in the benefits of this celebration that we are working to help individuals, groups and organizations connect.
Our goal is to provide awareness and education of the meaningful traditions of Dia de los Muertos festivities by sponsoring and promoting activities that celebrate this holiday. Our events are free to the community or support local non-profit organizations.
If you would like to volunteer or underwrite an event please let us know.

Now in its 4th year, this month long series of countywide events serves to honor the memories of those who have passed, while reminding us of how vibrant and creative we are as a community.

Enjoy traditional meals, salsa dancing, Sugar Skull Class (Caspar Community Center, 10/22/10), mask and flower making classes, gallery shows (Soulful Abundance Exhibit at Oddfellows Hall through October), margarita tastings, Gualala's Day of the Dead Fiesta Oct. 31, as well as many other events throughout Mendocino County. Not to mention the Altar Trail, complete with map, where various Dia de Los Muertos Altars can be discovered. Many of the activities are free and the rest benefit local non-profits. The schedule is updated as events are confirmed and a map of the Altar Trail will be available soon.

From Saturday, Oct. 30th to Nov, 2 the Fort Bragg Town Hall will be transformed into Day of the Dead Altar Hall. Numerous Altars from members of the community will be on display throughout this time.

New this year will be a Candlelight Procession of Remembrance, Nov. 1 at 6:00pm through the streets of Fort Bragg ending at the Redwood Coast Senior Center for free champurrado (Mexican hot chocolate) and cookies. Join us for a costumed (or not) community celebration as we honor our loved ones in a traditional Day of the Dead fashion.

Want to participate? Make your own altar, and add it to the altar trail? Or invite your favorite bar or bartender to join the Margarita Tasting Contest? Or let us know of an event you are hosting that you'd like to add to the schedule.
